Russian Gravy ~Подлила ~

As a lot of you may know my husband is a major hunter, almost everything I cook is with moose meat. It is very similar taste to beef. Moose is so much healthier to eat than store bought meat. I always say when it comes to meat always do your research and try to buy from local meat markets or organic.


1 lb of cubed moose ( or beef)

4 tea spoons of butter

1/2 Onion

1/2 carrot shredded

1 tea spoon Georgian adjika ( you can substitute this with 3 cloves of garlic and 1/2 tea spoon chili paste)

2 cups water

1 chicken bullion cube



1/2 cup sour cream

1 cup half and half

3 t spoons Dill


Sauté meat in butter. Add onions and carrots. Season it with salt and pepper.When the vegetables are tender and meat has brownish color add adjika, water and chicken bullion cube. Cover and cook for 1 hour , the water should reduce. If it gets too thick u can add more water. Add sour cream and and half and half. Mix all the ingredients and cook for couple min turn off the heat and add dill. Serve over mashed potatoes.
