Sweet and delicious buns filled with vanilla custard and topped with shredded coconut.



  1. In a small sauce pan melt butter and set aside to lightly cool.
  2. in a bowl combine 1/2 cup warm milk with a table spoon of sugar and yeast. Set aside for five minutes to activate and bubble. This is a great to find out if your yeast it active and works great. if you barley see any bubbles then the yeast is expired. Make sure your milk isn't hot just warm otherwise hot milk will kill the yeast
  3. In a stand up mixer with a dough attachment. Combine flour, with salt and the remaining sugar. Mix very well.
  4. Add butter , and yeast mixture to flour. mix for 7-10 min or kneed with your hand.
  5. remove the dough, use a tucking under method to form your dough into a ball. Pour oil into a large bowl, dip the dough into the oil than flip it over for all the dough to be covered in oil. cover with plastic wrap set in a warm area to rise. i also top it with a kitchen towel. let it rise for 2 hours.
  6. After 2 yours poke holes with your fingers in the dough, use a tucking method to tuck it back into a ball cover and let it rise thirty more min.
  7. Time to make your custard. In a sauce pan combine 1 egg and 2 egg yolks with 1/2 cup of sugar, tea spoon of vanilla and 1/4 cup of flour. Mix and pour in heavy cream. Keep whisking it and cooking it at medium heat until custard becomes really thick. Than Let it cool to warm temperature
  8. Take the dough and divide it into 14-15 even size pieces and form them into a round ball. Using your thumbs press into the center to make space for the filling. fill with about table spoon + of filling into each ball. Once all finished set in a warm area to rise for 30 more min.
  9. whisk one egg with some water and brush each bun with egg wash. bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes than broil for 2 minutes
  10. When buns are baked. In a bowl whisk together powder sugar with milk. Brush each side of the bun with icing and top with coconut.
